The English Department at David and Mary Thomson works very hard to provide our students with exceptional education in the areas of Reading, Writing, Oral Communication, and Media Literacy.
Our English teachers understand that a solid grounding in English language and Literacy education is necessary for the success of all of our students, regardless of the path they choose to take in their lives.
Whether studying at the Academic Level, Applied Level, or Locally Developed Level, DMT students will be engaged in English classes that are taught using relevant, engaging, and culturally significant texts and resources. As well, teachers infuse technology each and every day in their classes, to engage and inspire students.
At David and Mary Thomson, English teachers understand the importance and necessity of increasing the literacy skills of all of our students: the ability to write with confidence, purpose, and creativity, to read and to listen with a critical eye and ear, and to speak with clarity and confidence are focal point of all of our classes.
OSSLT - Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test
Each spring, every grade 10 student in Ontario must write the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test in order to graduate from Secondary School.
This test measures a student's ability to read and write at Ministry approved levels.
At David and Mary Thomson, we take our role very seriously in regard to preparing our students for the OSSLT.
Throughout the school year, grade ten students are provided with intensive and comprehensive instruction to provide them with the best possible chance of success.
