Canada's largest education and lifestyle event for graduating high school students is happening this weekend at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.  The Expo will begin at 10:00AM and end at 5:00PM daily.  Please visit studentlifeexpo.com to register for free admission to this event.

 
Young Voices Writers Conference PDF Print E-mail

 

This is a FREE event on Saturday October 26, 2013, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Toronto Reference Library. Participants will attend hands-on workshops in the morning and afternoon. Lunch and snacks will be provided.There will be workshop leaders from a number of different writing professions and an appearance by Toronto Public Library’s e-writer in residence for youth, Gary Barwin. The keynote speaker is well-known Canadian author Brian Francis. Other guests include: Karen Krossing on Character Development, Benjamin Gabbay on Story Plotting Jim Zub on Graphic Novels ,Ryan Kerr on Journalism and Bobby Del Rio on Playwrighting.  All teen writing will be assembled and an instant anthology will be created and distributed at the end of the day. Amazing Youth Programs PDF Print E-mail

Dorset Park and their provincial outreach workers will now be at Thomson every Thursday at lunch in room 200 to provide students with employment services, digitial media and arts, youth legal information, newcomer services, school life counselling, LGBTQ services, and much much more.  For further information  please call (416) 438-6880, ext. 278 or come to student services.

Tropicana and its Scarborough Youth Resource Centre, a drop-in centre for all youth ages 12 to 24, offers a number of amazing programs and services including free internet, fax, and photocopying access, leadership development, health education, employment, dance,and special events services, and arts and leisure programs to mention only a few.  Some of the key youth programs are: Man Up, a men's group that meets on Mondays from 6-8pm to discuss current topics in a safe, non-judgemental environment;  Sister 2 Sister, a women's group for ages 12-24 that meets on Mondays from 4-6pm and provides activities, healthy discussions and workshops about current issues;  Start Fresh, a Wednesday evening program from 4-6pm that gives youth the tools to learn and grow from their experiences;  Speckz'tacular Dance Program, an open intermediate dance program that teaches various dance styles on Wednesday nights from 6-8pm and Thursdays from 7-9pm; and Tropicana LYVE - Leading Youth to Valuable Employment - a wage subsidy program funded by Service Canada and designed to assist unemployed youth between the ages of 15-30 obtain meaningful employment.  For more info contact SYRC at (416)296-7154 or pick up a flyer in Student Services.
