Volunteer Opportunities PDF Print E-mail

Attention students, the following new opportunities are now available for anyone that is interested:

Youthlink is looking for Grade 10-12 high school students to join their Students (T.O.P.S) facilitation team as a school ambassador. You will mentor new grade 9 students, lead and facilitate groups, deliver educational modules, take part in community outreach activities and network with other high school students. TTC fare, snacks, a letter of reference are all provided and you can gain up to 72 hours of volunteer experience. The program is every Tuesday and Thursday from 10am-4pm starting on July 9th and ending on August 1st. Please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Topicana is again running its Ontario Youth Opportunities Strategy Jobs for Youth 2013. This is a program designed to help youth in selected priority neighborhoods with preparing for and finding part-time employment. Please see the following attachment for exact contact details. Tropicana.pdf

 

Future Possibilities for Kids needs volunteer for their Camps running from July 8th – August 16th at different locations in Scarborough and near Jane and Finch. You must commit to a minimum of 1-2 weeks in the summer and attend a mandatory 7.5 hour training session on June 24th. If interested please contact Sarah at 416-923-0777, ext. 221.

Finally, Toronto Intergenerational Partnerships in Community has a number of opportunities on a variety of days and locations to obtain your hours by helping out in different programs assisting the elderly. Please check the board in guidance for exact details.

 
Architects release 3D video of the new building PDF Print E-mail

The architects responsible for the new Thomson-Bendale school, scheduled to open for the 2015-16 school year, have released a 3D walkthrough to show off some of their design.  Members of the community, parents, students and staff are reminded that the existing building will continue to function until such time as the new building is ready, so there will be no interruption to the services offered through David and Mary Thomson C.I.

Final Exam Schedule PDF Print E-mail

Students please find the final exam schedule for June 2013 below.  Remember the exam guidelines:

Exam Guidelines:

    1. Students must present their DMT picture ID before each exam.
    2. Students must review the exam schedule carefully. It is every student's responsibility to be aware of their exam date, time, and room number.
    3. Students who are late for an exam are only permitted the time remaining.
    4. Students who miss an exam will receive a mark of "0" unless a medical certificate, clearly indicating the reason for the absence, is received in the office by 12:00 noon the following day.
    5. When dismissed from an exam by the supervising teacher, students must leave the school or report to the library for quiet study. The library is open from  June 20-25 between 10:00am to 1:00pm.
    6. Students that have 2 exams on the same date and time, see Ms. Sidlofsky regarding a revised schedule.
    7. Students that have 3 exams on one day, see Ms. Sidlofsky regarding a revised schedule

Mainstage Men Summer Program PDF Print E-mail

Soulpepper is hosting an exciting opportunity for aspiring young male actors on Wednesday July 24 and Thursday July 25.  The program will include acting, writing, improvisation, and stage combat, along with opportunities to see productions of Angels in America Parts 1 & 2.  The program is completely free, and will even include a $20 / day allowance to cover the costs of transportation and food!

Students can qualify for a Silver Plaque (4 sports), Gold Plaque (8 sports), or Thomson 'T' Award (12 or more sports) at this year's Athletic Banquet.

SAC MayFest PDF Print E-mail

The student council will be hosting their annual MayFest on May 13th 2013. This day will consists of several carnival activities, such as jumpy castles, obstacles courses, snow-cones, popcorn, airbrush artists and many more. We will be having an extended lunch so we encourage all staff and students to join SAC at the back of our school for a day full of fun and free events!

*Please note the change of date.  This event was rescheduled to Monday May 13th due to the risk of inclement weather on the originally scheduled day.
